Curriculum of the SAFE Through the Arts Program

Day One begins with a showing of the "Bricks in the Wall" music video with the goal of raising awareness on the more subtle aspects of bullying and violence. The factual information that follows is presented in the form of a game involving movement and cognitive thinking abilities. The next three days focus on the three key components of the program (Self-Affirmation, Financial literacy, and Education of non-violence), which is taught though the use of performing and creative arts activities.

The SAFE through the Arts program culminates with the sharing of the students' final projects, which not only serves as assessment for class teachers, but is also the opportunity for each student to demonstrate his or her creativity and knowledge of one or more aspects of the program. The program concludes on Friday afternoon with an assembly concert in which students sing the SAFE through the Arts theme song with a band of guest artists. The concert aims at reinforcing the messages of empowerment, courage, and importance of believing in oneself.
