Mission Statement of Azalea Blossom Incorporated

Azalea Blossom Incorporated was founded in August of 2005 by musician and New York State certified educator Margaret Bernstein as a sister organization to Growing Azalea Music Productions, an independent music publishing and record company, with the aim of helping to facilitate musical projects directed at social awareness.  Azalea Blossom Incorporated believes in the equality of all human beings, compassion as the basis for all relationships, the importance of addressing community needs, and the relevance of the Arts as a vehicle for social change.  Our mission statement and specific purpose is to raise awareness, education, and prevention of domestic violence and child abuse through the use and creation of music, multi-media, and the Arts.

Azalea Blossom’s Primary Focus

Azalea Blossom Incorporated’s primary projects include the “Bricks in the Wall” project consisting of a music video, audio recording, and concerts for the awareness and healing of the lesser-known aspects of domestic violence including verbal and emotional abuse; and the SAFE through the Arts program, a weeklong educational program for public middle school students on the prevention of domestic violence and abuse using a variety of creative and performing arts as its main mode of instruction. To date, Azalea Blossom Inc. has produced “Bricks in the Wall” concerts in seven counties throughout New York State. In addition, the “Bricks in the Wall” music video has been shown on several cable and public access television stations throughout New York State as well as being viewed consistently on You Tube.
Meanwhile, Program Director Margaret Bernstein has successfully instructed the SAFE through the Arts program at Duanesburg Middle School and Margaretville Central Schools during the spring of 2009. In addition, Ms. Bernstein has presented components of the SAFE through the Arts program to the Orange County Trauma Initiative’s annual conference and to the Greene County Girl Scout Troupe #1206 during the spring of 2008. Ms. Bernstein also hosted a three-day intensive SAFE through the Arts retreat for youth and adults in Rensselaerville, New York during the summer of 2008. We plan to implement the SAFE through the Arts program in twenty public middle schools throughout New York State during the 2009-2010 school year beginning with a residency at Berne-Knox-Westerlo Middle School in September.

Our past projects have included the following:

•Producing a music video (“Bricks in the Wall”) to raise awareness of the lesser-known aspects of domestic violence including verbal and emotional abuse

•Community concerts in four counties for the awareness, education, and healing of domestic violence (Each of these performances included representation by a local shelter as well as a showing of the music video)

•Presenting components of the SAFE through the Arts program to the Orange County Trauma Initiative’s annual conference and to the Greene County Girl Scout Troupe #1206

•Hosting a three day intensive SAFE through the Arts retreat for youth and adults in Rensselaerville, New York

•Distribution of the “Bricks in the Wall” music video through record sales, You Tube, and public access television (Live Music Media, channel 115, NYC)

Our goals for 2010 include the following:

Our goal for the 2009-2010 school year is to produce thirty concerts, free of charge to the public, in middle schools, high schools, colleges, community centers and festivals throughout the Northeast. In addition, our goal is for the “Bricks in the Wall” music video to be shown on public and cable television stations throughout the United States and abroad. Our ultimate future goal is for SAFE through the Arts to become a nationally recognized and implemented educational program in public middle schools throughout the country, and to have an impact on youth and adults throughout the globe with our messages of healing and hope.
